Know Before You Go...®

Chateau La Tete Rouge’s outdoor space is phenomenal. The villa enjoys beautiful views, an open floor plan, and spacious areas perfect for lounging, relaxing, and sunbathing. The tiered exterior offers space to do yoga, grill, soak in the hot tub, and swim. Rendezvous Bay is one of the quieter regions on St. John, so you can expect total tranquility and serenity.

Deluxe pool with hot tub and cabana!

Chateau La Tete Rouge is an open, comfortable villa overlooking St. John’s south shore. With four spacious bedrooms and a sunbathed exterior, this is the perfect vacation rental for group getaways.

The villa’s sundecks surround the large pool, hot tub, and outdoor seating areas. Lush tropical gardens and blue waters stretch across the horizon, and palm trees and bougainvillea border the villa. Guests can sunbathe on pool floats and loungers, or relax in the shade in cushioned armchairs. The hot tub and yoga pavilion are elevated above the pool deck on private patios. Another set of stairs leads up to the veranda, where guests can enjoy a cup of coffee or an ice-cold cocktail with an ocean view. Brick-paved archways frame the Great Room and offer each area exterior access. High ceilings, terra cotta tiled floors, and a stereo system outfit the interior. The kitchen is fully equipped with bartop dining, standard appliances, and a coffee maker.

Chateau Le Tete Rouge offers three air-conditioned bedrooms and an air-conditioned sleeping loft tucked above the Great Room’s kitchen. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, and the loft has access to a powder room off the kitchen. The master suite is on the main level, and the queen and king suites are on the lower level. A spiral staircase leads up to the loft, which has two twin beds.

Chateau La Tete Rouge is only ten minutes’ drive from Cruz Bay’s restaurants, shops, and activities. St. John’s trailheads and snorkeling reefs are located all over the island, and the Virgin Islands National Park stretches across the rolling hills and white sand beaches.

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

A dream come true- to bring my now adult children to my island paradise.
This home provided endless views, iguanas and a quiet retreat away from the crowds at the beaches. We returned each day to this perfect oasis to relax and recharge. The generator was an unknown added benefit during a heat wave with prolonged power outages.

Fabulous! Betsy was attentive and responded promptly to emails and questions.

Amazing villa!

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

My dream was to take my parents one day to St. John and rent a villa. We love St. John and do miss Caneel bay resort but this vacation was beyond our expectations! Beautiful views, very private and perfect for family vacations. Few little problems but team was alway there to accommodate us and fix what ever we needed. Lights went out on our last night when we were packing but that is something expected with rolling power outages, it was about 2 hours. All I can say is it’s a beautiful villa, perfect location, perfect island, perfect service. We will come back soon….

Shawna was amazing! Always responded when I had questions, gave us directions on check in, check out and everything else we wanted to do on the island. We really appreciate her for making our trip very smooth. I wish we could stay longer.

Absolutely wonderful!

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

The Chateau La Tete Rouge was absolutely wonderful! It is spacious, beautifully decorated and we had exceptionally stunning sunrise and sunset views every day! Our group of 7 had plenty of room, the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of plates, pots and pans. We were very concerned about Covid yet found every thing (each room, pool, hot tub everything!) was nice and clean. We had to keep the rolling doors down far more than we hoped because the sun poured in (nice problem to have) making the kitchen and living room quite hot. There were a few minor things wrong at Chateau La Tete Rouge: (hot tub stopped working, electric outlet was broken and coffee maker broke). They were all handled by our managers quickly and professionally. Other problems (broken air conditioner in dining area) seem to be a problem of not being able to get parts on the island - which was not the end of the world but somewhat uncomfortable. The staff responded quickly and did their best to help us.

Betsy was delightful to work with. She replied quickly to my correspondence and we would love to work with her again in the future!

Wonderful Stay

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

We had a wonderful stay at Chateau La Tete Rouge! Truly a beautiful property with all of the amenities. The space was perfect for our group of 6. More than enough space and the multiple bathrooms and air conditioning were very much appreciated by everyone. Roads are steep so as others have mentioned, the 4x4 jeeps were a must. Bug spray is also essential as mosquitos are prevalent (at the property and the rest of the island). Property management was incredibly professional, responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!

Excellent!

Beautiful villa

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

We just stayed for a week. This is the first house that had adequate lighting in the main bathroom! New fixtures, 2 new rockers on the deck, some new beach chairs. This home was the most well- kept that I’ve stayed in. I do wish the “ garage “ doors in the main room had screens. We had to close up at night to keep the bugs out and with the doors closed, there was no view out.
I also wish they had black-out shades and curtains on the bedroom windows. My bed faced sunrise, but i wish i could have slept in a bit without the sun in my eyes. The staff was wonderful and the home was very clean. Views were fantastic. Would recommend to everyone and would love to stay there again!

Working with WhereToStay and Betsy was Fantastic!!!! Best customer service ever. This was a very pleasant experience.

Amazing Paradise Under One Roof!

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

We thought that the pictures of the villa were edited and that we were probably going to be let down…we were happily surprised and the house took our breath away. Everything was perfect! Each morning we would lift the open-air doors, and we were awestruck by the view each time. The foliage around the property was amazing! From morning yoga practices to late afternoon cocktails, we had the best time! No words can ever express our love for Chateau La Tete Rogue. It’s truly one of a kind!

WhereToStay and Shawna were AMAZING!!! Shawna was incredible and Patricia was amazing! We couldn’t have asked for better!

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

Our family of 7 had a near perfect reunion at Chateau La Tête-à-tête Rouge Villa.
We have rented villas on STJ many times and this was the most well equipped and well stocked of them all. The location is private & quiet. Two items to be aware of is the steep driveway and the open air great room. While the views are spectacular, the mosquitos can be a problem. We would highly recommend working with Shawna and her team for any villas you would like to rent! The small maintenance issues were resolved immediately. Shawna assisted us with all the details related to Covid testing, private taxis from the airport to Red Hook, etc. She is a true professional.

Power outage often

star star star star empty-star

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

The home is amazing with beautiful views. However, the day we arrived power was out and house was so hot, no one could sleep upstairs.

Then two days before we leave, it went out again and we were told not to shower or use water. Refrigerator didn’t freeze so they did immediately replace it. That was very efficient.

The last day power was out all day. No option to shower after beach or see to pack suitcase. This was really a nuisance trying to leave and pack. The upstairs master got very hot. Notified Andrew and he just says “oh none of the villas have a generator”, but several houses did. “And the power isn’t usually an issue.” Well it certainly was.

This was very nice expensive home to not have a generator or back up. Would not book again at this rate without power outage options. Really too bad as we loved the home.

Prepare for bugs as well like mosquitos. Bug spray a must.

Andrew was helpful w pre-booking. He helped give suggestions on insurance and Jeep and pre planning.

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

Initial review, the villa has amazing views, and the flora and fauna are perfect. We did have a few issues that we feel need to be addressed. Our greeter setup did not work out, I must have had the wrong # for voicemails so we arrived at the villa 6/22 @ 1500 and let ourselves in. Bernard did drop by later to greet us. The first day, we called maintenance about roaches in the kitchen and on the dining table. That night, my daughter had a roach crawl on her in her bed upstairs. That definitely did not start the week off well. We killed as many as we found, and ultimately the pest service came by and sprayed. The next issue was that when the power went off, the generator did not power up. Once Bernard came by and reset it, we had to call him back because the main area AC was switched off. We chose to leave for the day, since there was no air even with a generator. The hot tub has major issues, as well. We did not end up being able to use it because the jets didn’t work. The pool was supposed to have been cleaned before we arrived, but we just skimmed it each morning to get the dead roaches out…. There is a large hive of bees near the front door, and the bees tended to stay between the front screen door and the wood door. At any time, there were 50-100 bees that we had to walk through to get into the villa. Fortunately, none of my family are allergic but it would have been a dangerous situation if someone was allergic.

Good experience.

This is a nice place to stay.

Chateau La Tete Rouge Villa, St. John villa review

This is a really nice villa. The location is good, the furnishings are comfortable, and there is lots of room to stretch out and not be cramped.

On the downside, the two bedrooms downstairs have no direct access to the main house and living area except by coming up the steps and through the front door. I guess this can be good or bad. Guests in lower bedrooms need their key at night if the front door is locked.

I agree with the other review that there are lots of critters in and out of the house, including one scorpion. The roll up shutters are nice if you have them open to allow the breeze to blow through, but not as attractive at night when closed to attempt to keep out the mosquitoes. I would have preferred glass shutters. Also, there is no real AC in the living area.

The pool is a good size, and very swimmable. The semi outside shower is fun. Stereo, Flat Screen with HBO and Internet are nice, too.

What I was disappointed about most was that there is no access to the water. Even if you drive down (I tried), it is all private homes. Ditleff Point, the peninsula out front is now gated and all private. The road and driveway are all paved, which is good, but you must make a three-point turn on the a hairpin corner of the driveway. It’s a little tight.

The villa is furnished with every appliance, hair dryer, pot and pan, storage dish, etc.,  you could want.

Overall, it is a very nice villa, but I’ll be sure to have sea access from the villa next time.
