Abrigado Villa is perfect for vacationing couples or families looking to entertain and unwind. There’s plenty of room for privacy across the villa’s four bedrooms, but the common areas and exterior provide ample space for gathering together. Every room is comfortably furnished, and the exterior is no different. With seating on the patio and sun deck, guests can enjoy the ocean views, take a swim in the infinity pool, sunbathe, or just lounge around. The fully equipped kitchen is big enough for everyone to cook together, with wraparound countertops and two separate sinks. The poolside sunsets are unforgettable, and you can end each day with stargazing.
Poolside sunsets at Abrigado are miraculous!
Abrigado is a breathtaking four-bedroom villa in the prestigious Virgin Grande Estates. The villa’s name translates to “warm, sheltered, and protected” in Spanish, and has been designed to ensure guests’ ultimate comfort and relaxation.
Caribbean sunshine warms the infinity-edge pool and sundeck daily. Sunsets engulf the horizon nightly, and Abrigado provides ample space to enjoy the view. Relax in the pool with a cocktail and gaze up at the stars, or stretch out in the daybeds around the pool. Guests can also lounge in the shade beneath the veranda or gazebo. The gazebo offers cushioned furnishings, a long dining table, and a ceiling fan to aid the island breeze. Eco-friendly amenities, such as environmentally sustainable furniture and a solar-recirculating pool pump, help reduce the villa’s carbon footprint. Cushioned wicker armchairs sit under the veranda’s wooden awning, and glass doors open to the villa’s interior.
Inside, Brazilian onyx countertops, brick-accented archways, Murano glass pendants, and unique sculptures capture the tranquil, relaxing essence of Abrigado. The spacious kitchen is well-stocked with stainless steel appliances, two sinks, and wraparound cabinetry. The formal dining area sits to the left, and the living room is a bit further. The living room’s flatscreen TV provides indoor entertainment, and WiFi and air-conditioning run throughout the villa. A washer, dryer, and security alarm are also available. Abrigado’s spacious, colorful bedrooms are located in the north wing. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with Grohe fixtures, rainforest showers, European glass tile, and mosaic mirrors. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and are perfect for children to share. The other two suites each have one king bed and patio access.
Abrigado Villa has an ideal location between Rendezvous Bay, Great Cruz Bay, and Cruz Bay. Cruz Bay has most of the island’s restaurants and shops, while Rendezvous and Great Cruz are known for tranquility and gorgeous views. Sailing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, parasailing, snorkeling lessons, and certifications are also within a short drive.

Great week in St John!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Just came back to reality from a fabulous week in St John and staying in Abrigado Villa. Took my wife , three daughters, and husbands/boyfriend with us. The weather was wonderful, sunshine and 79-84 each day, rained every morning before we got up but otherwise perfect weather. The crew at Wheretostay do a tremendous job (this is our second time with them, went to Turks three years ago) keeping us on track. Betsy QB’d the adventure and Sharon, with great patience, got us transportation from the airport to Red Hook ferry. We followed their recommendations for car rentals, provisioning (which was there upon our arrival), and everything went off without a hitch. Our villa guide, Dennis, met us at the jeep rental (recommend the jeep), and led us to the Villa. He also met my oldest daughter (who had a later flight) at her car rental later and led her to the villa, which was above and beyond in my opinion. He led us through the villa and gave us a quick rundown on the island (we have never been to St John). The villa itself was just as advertised, beautiful in all respects.
One small nit. Bring your own beach towels as we thought the villa;s were not great. As mentioned previously I would have a jeep rental as the road up to the villa was very steep in places and it was nice to have the bigger tires and four wheel drive, if necessary (it was not for us). For those who may have never been to St John, you will need to get to the beach early (start by nine) so you have parking. The beach spots fill up quickly. I and the family cannot speak highly enough of the entire experience
The entire experience was excellent. Betsy was a great QB, and Sharon was a super concierge. And then on Island, Henry had his son Dennis meet us and show us the property. Dennis was super nice and informative, and then met my oldest who came on a different flight, which he did not need to, which was great of him.

Absolutely Gorgeous!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Our entire family loved our stay at Villa Abrigado - a truly 5 star house in the hills. Clean, well appointed, stylish and with a million dollar view from the pool, we could have easily stayed in happily during our trip. Highly recommend!

Great house with awesome views!!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Abrigado was everything we hoped it would be. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces were just as described (and shown in the pictures). The kitchen had anything you would need or want. The bedrooms were all large and nicely decorated. Same for the ensuite bathrooms. The beds were all very comfortable (and for a family with bad backs, that’s usually very hard to find). The indoor spaces were large and gave everyone the room they needed (Mom, dad and our 19 yr. old daughter and 22 yr. old daughter).
The outdoor spaces had ample seating and the covered sitting area was used every day throughout the day and evenings. The pool is very large and so very relaxing. And the pool floats made it even more relaxing (almost too relaxing. I dozed off one afternoon on one of the floats). The views at Abrigado are beyond perfect. Again, what you see in the pictures is what you get in person. Absolutely amazing.
Next time we come down to St. John, Abrigado will certainly be tops on our list. Absolutely stunning house for a great value. If you have the opportunity to stay at this house, don’t pass it up.
2nd year in a row I worked with Betsy and the “Where to Stay” team. This time was just as easy as the first and Betsy was top notch again. Keep up the great work.

We really enjoyed our stay at Abrigado Villa. Great view and a large pool. The house was perfect for our family of 8. Sunsets were beautiful. We would definitely rent this villa again.
Andrew at WhereToStay was great to work with. He was always available to answer any questions I had about the villa.

Paradise with a view
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Our stay at the Abrigado villa could not have been better. Not only did it have breathtaking views from every angle of the house but it was perfectly cleaned and well stocked. At first our group was worried about getting to Cruz Bay in the evenings. This was not an issue at all as Shawna was beyond helpful with her recommendations on Taxi service - $7 a person with gorgeous views as you enjoy the open air taxi ride. We loved the taxi and the fantastic local drivers! AMAZING as the Abrigado was, a fraction of the price of other homes in SJ to boot! I highly recommend this place and thank Shawna for her hospitality. We had a fantastic time!
Shawna and WhereToStay were beyond amazing!

Fantastic House! Great Location!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Our stay at Abrigado was amazing. The house was very well laid out and the views were non-stop. Loved being in a secure, gated community. The drive to and from town is not for the timid but there are views around every corner. Loved that all four bedrooms are on the far end of the house with two on the first floor and two on the second. The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Spent lots of time on the covered patio and lounging in the pool. I would highly recommend this home to anyone!
Shawna was great during the booking process as she took my wish list and presented me with numerous options. She kept me informed of the current requirements around Covid-19 from testing to mask requirements throughout the island. She provided numerous recommendations for activities and restaurants. I would recommend making all of your dinner reservations before arriving. If you are looking for someone to plan and arrange your activities and/or dinner reservations, this is not the group to do that. Great experience overall.

Perfect set up!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
We’ve visited St John 3 times before, but this was our first visit with children. Finding a house with the perfect set up was important, and difficult, as many homes have exterior entries to bedrooms, etc. Abrigado fit the bill perfectly, providing kids bedroom just across the hall from the master (and the identical set up on the second floor, as well). We also loved having the pool on the main floor, with easy access to the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms! Not to mention the unbelievable views. We made it a point to return home from the beaches in time to catch the sunsets each evening before heading to dinner. The pool is very large and pool deck has amazingly comfortable furniture. Location of the home was in a gated community, safe area, and very private. We loved every second of the trip and didn’t want to return home!
Andrew was wonderful, super friendly, and always willing to help set up accommodations, taxi rides from airport, etc. His emails kept us on track with reminders about what we needed to do to prepare (COVID tests, etc) prior to the trip.

Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
We stayed at Abrigado Villa the first week of June 2017 and we could not have imagined a more perfect place to celebrate my husband’s retirement. It was absolutely amazing. The villa is decorated beautifully and is equipped with everything you could need. The patio is perfect for meals, with such beautiful views. Our grandchildren loved the pool. Everything went perfectly.
Lateefah was waiting for us at the ferry dock, took us to the car rental, then escorted us to the villa. She gave us a tour, and was very sweet and helpful. We went to a different beach everyday, and it was so easy to bring the coolers, towels, and beach chairs that were available at the villa. We had such a wonderful time and such sweet memories that we were all sad to leave. Awesome place.
Sharon was wonderful from the start. We were looking for a place that would accommodate our family with grandchildren ages 7 and 9. Sharon suggested the Abrigado Villa, and we are so happy she did. Everything was perfect and all her details were very clear. She made the trip so easy. I would highly recommend Sharon to anyone. We had a great experience using WhereToStay for the first time and are looking forward to our next trip.

Beautiful place!
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
I took my three sisters and their husbands. It was their first time in Saint John. We all had a fabulous time. The Abrigado was just about perfect. Very tastefully appointed, plenty of towels, beach chairs, coolers, etc. The kitchen had absolutely everything you could want to prepare and cook meals. We ate both indoors and outdoors. I won’t hesitate to stay there again and will probably make reservations for next year.
There are a couple of minor issues:
1. I thought we were going to get a mid-week visit from cleaning people. While we kept the place pretty neat and orderly, we could have used more bath towels and it would have been nice to have someone empty trash and take it up the hill. No big deal.
2. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how to get hot water in the master bath shower. I finally figured it out on the morning we were leaving.
3. Getting there from Cruz Bay can be rugged and confusing at first. We figured it out. However, we hired a driver to take us around to the beaches and to dinner in town, and the cost of that was comparable to the cost of a rental car with a lot less stress. Worth noting.
Where To Stay’s service was excellent. Shawna’s terrific!

Beautiful place
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
The Abrigado is tastefully designed beautifully appointed. It’s higher elevation offers sweeping views of the bay during the day, and the lights of Cruz Bay at night. Felt like the Hollywood Hills.
Excellent. Couldn’t have been better!

We had a fantastic stay.
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
Our stay at Abrigado was fabulous.
The house was beautiful, and the pool was warm and clear. It had a fully furnished kitchen and a beautiful deck overlooking a wonderful view of Great Cruz Bay. The bedrooms were large and very comfortable, too. It was fully air conditioned, which was a big plus.
It was just over a ten-minute drive to Cruz Bay, and less than a half hour to Coral Bay.
We can’t wait to visit here again.

It far exceeded my expectations.
Abrigado Villa, St. John villa review
After having several disappointing villa rentals (with other companies) I was very apprehensive. Shawna was very patient and supportive.
Abrigado was stunningly beautiful. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought and personal style into their home and every lamp and piece of furniture is a work of art.
Each room had a different color scheme and the home itself was built of natural stone, with shells built in (a real reflection of the island).
Getting there is not for the faint-of-heart. If you are not used to driving in the steep terrain, be careful. We thought it was worth the drive.
One thing I noticed was how wonderfully quiet all the rooms were. You couldn’t hear the television in another guests’ rooms, nor any noise from surrounding neighbors.
Also, the owners have thought of everything- well-appointed kitchen, beautiful pool and equipment, a telescope for star gazing, and great entertainment (even including WiFi).
Please, if you stay here, take great care of it, this is the kind of home we hope to visit often!
